Questions about this tool
Is the image uploaded for compression?
No. The browser decodes and encodes the file locally. The source image is not sent to Peelaway's servers by this utility.
Why can a compressed image sometimes be larger?
A source may already be heavily optimized, or the selected quality may preserve more data than the original. The size comparison makes that visible before download.
Should I choose JPEG or WebP?
JPEG has broad compatibility. WebP often produces a smaller file at a similar visual quality and can preserve transparency, but very old software may not open it.
